After Latin singer Jennifer Lopez filed for divorce from Ben Affleck on August 20 before the Los Angeles County Superior Court, new details regarding the petition have come to light.
According to People, who had access to the documents submitted, the singer of “On The Floor” requested that her previous name, Jennifer Lynn Lopez, be reinstated.
Although the actress is also known and recognized worldwide by her stage name, Jennifer Lopez, the Bronx native decided to change her maiden name to Affleck, the same name that can be seen in legal documents.
According to what was revealed by the same media, at that time, the artist of Latin origin decided to take the surname of her still husband because she felt proud to be his wife and because it seemed like a romantic decision.
We are husband and wife. I am proud of that. I don’t think that is a problem.”
Jennifer Lopez reveals the reason for her divorce from Ben Affleck
In the same documents, People also reported that Lopez cited “irrevocable differences” as the reason for her divorce petition.
Likewise, and within the same documentation, López indicated that he does not know, at present, the “scope” of the assets and obligations of the separate property: “At this time, the petitioner does not know the exact nature and scope of the assets and obligations of the separate property. The petitioner reserves the right to modify this petition when it is determined otherwise.”
The above confirms that Jennifer Lopez’s divorce petition did not include a prenuptial agreement, which was rumored days before the couple’s wedding in 2022.
For the above reasons, and as reported in various media, the couple’s assets will become common property, which means that the way in which these types of resources will be divided will be determined in the following weeks.
Finally, and so far, it is known that JLo did not request child support, so she also demanded that the Oscar winner for “Argo” not receive said support either.
So far, and after Lopez’s divorce petition was revealed, Ben Affleck has not revealed or shown any kind of reaction to the matter. The same day that the artist’s petition came to light, the “Batman vs Superman” interpreter was caught leaving a private plane, together with his ex-wife Jennifer Garner, after having accompanied his eldest daughter, Violet, to her new residence at Yale University.
