This Friday, Inter Miami’s Argentine coach Gerardo Martino explained that the recovery of injured Lionel Messi is on track.
Martino assured that, although there is still no concrete date for his return, he will be back before the end of the MLS regular season.
“He is not training with the group but he is already out on the pitch and working with the physical trainers. He is progressing well. It was foreseeable that he would not be with Argentina (for the 2026 World Cup qualifying matches in September) because he is not yet in condition to play but we are still doing well,” Tata told the media.
“There is no estimated date (for his return). We have to start seeing how he is feeling as he trains more and more,” he added, before saying that Messi will return to action before the MLS playoffs begin.
The last round of the league will be held on October 19. The wildcard matches (eighth vs. ninth) will take place on October 23, while the first round of the playoffs will start on October 26.
Messi has been nursing an ankle injury since the Copa América final on July 14.
Between his time away from the continental tournament and his injury, the number 10 has not played for Inter Miami since June 1.
Eliminated from the Leagues Cup and with only the MLS in play, the Florida team, which is leader of the Eastern Conference, returns this Saturday to the domestic competition with a powerful match against Cincinnati, which is second.
Inter Miami is five points ahead of Cincinnati and could mathematically confirm its presence in the playoffs with a win or with a flurry of results if it does not get the three points.
