A 35-year-old woman was shot in the back yesterday afternoon in the Bronx (NYC) and although emergency services initially declared her dead on the way to the hospital, she regained her pulse and was admitted in critical condition.

The motive for the shooting outside 1397 Franklin Ave. in the Morrisania section around 5 p.m. is unclear, police said. PIX11 News.

The unidentified victim was sitting with a group of friends in a corner on folding chairs. ABC News obtained surveillance video that captured the frantic moments when the gunshots rang out. “It’s hard to tell from the video where the shots came from, but you can see a man in the street crouched behind a parked car and everyone else running for cover.”

“It sounded like fire, like a bomb went off. That’s all,” said resident Veronica Clarke. “I’m just shocked that this happened right before the end of summer.”

Witnesses say the woman was knocked unconscious after being hit and her friends tried to revive her, but she was unresponsive. “Everyone started running and that’s when I saw her fall to the ground,” said witness Marina Lopez. She was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital where she remains in critical condition.

No arrests have been made and no suspects have been identified. Anyone with information is asked to call 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) and for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). They can also be reached via crimestoppers.nypdonline.org or by texting 274637 (CRIMES) followed by TIP577. All communications are strictly confidential.

Last week, Muhamadou Gumaneh, a 27-year-old Uber driver, was also shot dead on a street in the Bronx, and his family believes he was not the gunman’s target.

Gun violence is a constant in New York, with some victims being targeted at random on the streets, in schools, on public transport and in businesses. Clashes are often linked to a battle between gang members for territory, and suspects often incriminate themselves by bragging and posting about their crimes on social media.

In another similar case, at the end of July, a young immigrant worker for the Papa John’s chain was shot in the head and killed outside his home in the Bronx while he was planning to travel soon to the Dominican Republic on vacation with his wife.
