Former world boxing champion Floyd Mayweather returned to the ring in an exhibition fight against John Gotti III on Saturday night in Mexico City.
At the Mexico City Arena, Mayweather, 47, defeated Gotti in an eight-round fight without judges, which added a more relaxed touch to the event, according to EFE.
This fight was a rematch of their previous bout in Florida, which ended in a massive brawl between the teams of both boxers. Despite the exhibition context, Mayweather showed his dominance from the second round onwards. The man nicknamed “Money,” who retired undefeated in 2017 after 50 fights, even asked for a change of referee, showing his usual control and mastery in the ring.
At the end of the fight, Mayweather and Gotti shared a hug in the ring, a gesture of sportsmanship that contrasted with the reaction of the Mexican public, who booed the outcome of the fight.
Considered one of the greatest boxers of all time, Mayweather has left an indelible mark on the sport during his 21-year career.
A world title winner in five weight classes, he has faced and defeated some of the most renowned fighters in history, including Manny Pacquiao, Oscar De la Hoya, Shane Mosley and Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez.
Since his official retirement, Mayweather has participated in several exhibition fights, facing not only Gotti, but also three Japanese fighters and popular YouTuber and WWE wrestler Logan Paul.
