The human body can be mysterious, and Jude Bellingham’s is a case study. Just under 48 hours ago, Real Madrid confirmed that he will be out for at least a month. The reason? An injury to a muscle that 10% of the population does not have.
The English midfielder has an injury to his right leg, specifically to the plantar muscle. This is a very rare injury because not everyone has this muscle. At least 10% of the population does not have it.
This muscle is located at the back of the knee and connects the femur to the calcaneus (heel bone). Its true function is a mystery that has not been solved by doctors. Many claim that it has no function at all.
“Following the tests carried out today on our player Jude Bellingham by the Real Madrid medical service, he was diagnosed with a plantar muscle injury in his right leg,” the club announced.
This is the third injury for the Briton since he signed for Real Madrid in 2023. In November he suffered a dislocation in his left shoulder that kept him out for two games. In February he missed another three games due to a sprained ankle. Now, he will miss at least a month of competition.
Bellingham will miss all LaLiga matches before the international break. Real Valladolid (today), Las Palmas and Real Betis. He will also miss the matches against Finland and Ireland. This is due to the Nations League.
In this sense, he could also miss the return of the competition against Real Sociedad, Espanyol, Alavés and the debut in the Champions League. Even the Madrid Derby against Atlético is an unknown for the jewel. His return is planned for the end of September and beginning of October.
