A 33-year-old man was fatally stabbed in a fight on a Bronx subway train Saturday afternoon, authorities and sources said.
The victim and a 37-year-old convicted felon, who was identified as Shane Cunnison, were fighting on a northbound 2 train about 3:20 p.m. near the 3rd Avenue-E. 149th Street subway station in the South Bronx, police said.
During the argument, Cunnison stabbed Nigel Dumas in the chest with a knife.
The victim was rushed to Lincoln Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police sources said.
Cunnison was arrested at a Bronx subway station and charged with first-degree murder.
According to police sources, the man had been put behind bars nine times before, including an attempted rape in Brooklyn in 2009. With a knife in his hand, he kicked down a woman’s door and punched her in the face before sexually assaulting her, the sources said.
In 2017, Cunnison brandished a knife in a verbal fight in Brooklyn and chased the victim for several blocks, sources said.
Saturday’s deadly incident is the latest in a series of stabbings on the New York City subway, the New York Post reported.
On Tuesday, a 52-year-old man was stabbed by a man waiting for the northbound 6 train on the platform at East 96th Street and Lexington Avenue around 3:30 a.m.
The attacker approached the victim and began arguing before stabbing him in the neck with an unknown sharp object, according to deputies. The man was taken to Weill Cornell Medical Center in stable condition. No arrests have been made.
Also, a suspect wielding a box cutter slashed a 29-year-old man’s arm in a confrontation aboard the southbound No. 4 train at the Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall station Monday night, police and sources said.
The victim was taken to Bellevue Hospital in stable condition. The perpetrator was not arrested.
