New York Yankees outfielder and captain Aaron Judge continues to hit an impressive home run this Sunday, hitting his 50th and 51st home run of the season in the series finale against the Colorado Rockies at Yankee Stadium.
Judge managed to put the Yankees ahead in the first inning despite the Rockies’ opening run of the game and took advantage of a man on base to put the Yankees up 2-1.
Judge ended up getting the 50th by depositing a changeup from pitcher Austin Gomber that stayed in the middle of the plate, to go around the bases and celebrate with his teammates in the dugout.
In addition, the homer allowed Judge to enter a select list of players with at least three seasons of 50 or more home runs, joining historic baseball names such as Babe Ruth (4), Mark McGuire (4), Sammy Sosa (4) and Alex Rodriguez (3).
But if that were not enough, in the seventh inning he participated in a back-to-back-to-back with Juan Soto and Giancarlo Stanton that added one more (51) to his campaign.
Thanks to them, he also set his home run projection for the end of the regular season at 63, which would allow him to surpass the record he achieved in 2022 with the maximum number of home runs in a single season in the American League.
In fact, Judge was asked a few days ago if he was thinking about breaking his own record and number 99 decided to prioritize the Yankees qualifying for the postseason and then winning a World Series ring.
“If it comes with a ring and a lot of fun in the playoffs, then that would definitely be great. I’m just trying to do everything in my power to put ourselves in a good position to win a game,” he said of breaking his own record.
Judge’s offensive pace has increased in recent Yankees games. In his last seven games, the outfielder has managed to hit seven home runs, has posted an offensive average of .348, with 11 RBIs and just two strikeouts.
