A man was shot and killed Sunday afternoon after a dispute in a Bronx neighborhood just blocks from his home, authorities said.
Responding officers received a 911 report shortly before 3 p.m. when they found Carlos Rivera, 23, shot twice in the chest after an argument with another individual near E. 176th St. and Anthony Ave., officials said.
EMS took the Hispanic man to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, the New York Police Department (NYPD) said.
Rivera lived on Clay Ave., less than two blocks from where he was shot, officers said.
“He was from the block,” said a 23-year-old woman who knew the victim but preferred to remain anonymous. “It’s bad to see this happen in the neighborhood. Seeing someone you see every day dying like this, it’s bad.”
“He was a good guy, to be honest. Always looking out for us. … Things were bad here. He always made sure nothing happened to us here,” he added.
The resident was inside her home when the shooting happened, but said that when she went outside, she could see the Hispanic man lying on the floor, the Daily News reported.
He was lying on the floor covered in blood, the woman said.
The unidentified gunman fled east on E. 176th St., the NYPD said.
No arrests have been made so far as investigations are ongoing.
Sunday’s fatal shooting marks the 19th murder so far this year in the 46th District, which encompasses the Bronx neighborhoods of Mount Hope, Fordham, Morris Heights and University Heights — more than any other borough.
