Venezuelan Interior Minister Diosdado Cabello on Tuesday denounced a “terrorist attack” targeting the national electrical system that affected several regions of the country. According to him, “opposition sectors” are behind this incident.

At 7:16 p.m., he reported in a telephone contact with the state channel VTV, interruptions were registered in the states of Táchira, Mérida, Barinas, Zulia, Falcón, Nueva Esparta and in parts of La Guaira, Miranda and Caracas.

Cabello said that this action is part of the tactics used by opposition groups to harm the population, although he did not present evidence to support his claims.

He urged citizens to remain alert and report any irregularities, and assured that the authorities would take immediate action, Efe reported.

The minister, who was appointed to the post on Tuesday, also said that security forces, along with electrical system workers, are deployed in the affected areas. He also said that service has already been restored in several places, without specifying which ones.

Cabello also stressed that the government will respond forcefully to those behind these “terrorist acts” that affect essential public services.

In parallel, citizens used the social network X to report blackouts in states such as Lara, Nueva Esparta, Carabobo, Merida, Anzoategui, Trujillo, Cojedes, Falcon, Aragua, Bolivar, Yaracuy, as well as in the capital, Caracas.

The Venezuelan regime has historically blamed the United States, the opposition and international sanctions for the continuous failures in the electrical system. However, experts maintain that the crisis is due to the lack of maintenance and investment in the infrastructure.
