The Social Security payment schedule for 2024 indicates that two groups of retirees will receive their money on September 1 and 3. These groups are:
1. Those who began receiving their retirement benefits before May 1997.
2. Those who, in addition to their pension, also receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI).
SSI benefits are received by people who are age 65 or older, blind, or disabled, and have limited income and resources.
These beneficiaries will receive their SSI payment on September 1, and then their retirement payment will be sent to them on September 3.
In addition to retirees, people who receive Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and who also receive SSI or who have been receiving benefits since before May 1997 will also receive their payment on September 3, 2024.
Those who do not meet the two criteria mentioned above will receive their payments on the later dates of September 11, 18, or 25.
On average, Social Security retirement payments in July 2024 are $1,919, although this amount can vary considerably depending on various factors.
For example, people who worked the 35 years required to qualify for the maximum Social Security benefit and who earned enough each year to reach the maximum earnings limit on which Social Security contributions are calculated can receive up to $4,873 per month.
On the other hand, those who applied early and have low wages could receive a smaller payment, supplemented by SSI payments of up to $973, or up to $1,415 if they are married couples with low incomes.
