The Colombian Football Federation (FCF) revealed the list of players called up by Néstor Lorenzo for the Colombian team’s qualifying matches for the 2026 World Cup against Peru and Argentina, respectively.
One of the problems that the Argentine coach had in putting together his squad was the injury of several of his stars, such as Davinson Sánchez, a key player for the Colombian team in the Copa América that was played in the United States.
It is worth remembering that, in its last two qualifying outings, the Tricolor has achieved two important victories in its aspiration to return to a major event.
In the fifth and sixth rounds played in November 2023, the Colombian national team achieved a historic victory against Brazil in Barranquilla with a double from Luis Díaz and did the same in Asunción against Paraguay, which they beat by the minimum difference with a goal from Rafael Santos Borré.
Almost two months after the Copa América, almost all of the national team’s players returned in the middle of the start of the season. Some have played only a few games, without making any progress in preseason or, like James Rodríguez, who were without a team.
Regarding news, there are six players who were not called by coach Néstor Lorenzo, with respect to the squad that played in the United States, and they are David Ospina, Dávinson Sánchez, Déiver Machado, Jorge Carrascal, Matheus Uribe and Miguel Ángel Borja.
However, the list of 26 players for the qualifiers in September includes men such as goalkeeper Kevin Mier, defenders Cristian Borja, Yerson Mosquera and Juan David Cabal, midfielder Jhon Solis and forward Juan Camilo Cucho Hernández.
“The national team will be concentrated in Barranquilla from August 31 to September 4, after which the national team will travel to Lima on Thursday 5 to face Peru. Once the match is over, Lorenzo’s team will return to the country to prepare for the match against Argentina,” the Colombian Football Federation reported.
