Girona are preparing for an exciting challenge in the 2024-25 Champions League, having been drawn in the group stage against some big-name teams. The presence of clubs such as Paris Saint Germain, Liverpool and Arsenal highlights the complexity that the Catalan side will face in their debut in this European competition.
Paris Saint Germain, although without star Kylian Mbappé, remain a formidable opponent due to their strong squad and experience in the tournament. Arsenal, with a heavy investment in transfers, are determined to compete at the highest level and end Manchester City’s hegemony in the Premier League, making them another fearsome rival.
Liverpool, historically one of Europe’s most successful clubs, are looking to regain their Champions League place after missing out on last season. With a new manager in Arne Slot, the Reds are aiming to make significant strides in the competition.
However, Girona will also have the chance to prove themselves against other clubs such as Milan, a giant with a rich history in the competition, and PSV Eindhoven, the reigning Eredivisie champions who have had recent success in their European campaign.
Opponents such as Feyenoord, Slovan Bratislava and Sturm Graz may look more manageable, but no team should be underestimated at this stage. Each game will offer a unique test and, with the experience of Míchel Sánchez at the helm, Girona will have a strategic approach to try and overcome these obstacles.
The first phase of the Champions League promises to be a great experience for Girona, who will have the opportunity to measure themselves against some of the best teams in Europe and show the potential of Catalan football on the continental stage.
