Los Angeles Dodgers superstars Shohei Ohtani, Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman continue to make history with the Californians and this Saturday they demonstrated all their power with three consecutive home runs against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
The back-to-back-to-back of Ohtani, Betts and Freeman appeared like a bucket of cold water for the Diamondbacks defense and especially for the work of local starter Merrill Kelly in just the first inning.
As if it were a scene straight out of a home run derby, the first to join the party was the Japanese Ohtani, who used all his strength to pull a breaking ball from Kelly that ended up right in center field, this being his 44th home run of the season and with his continued search to achieve the longed-for 50-50.
Betts, batting second in the order imposed by Dodgers manager Dave Roberts, followed the Japanese formula and again a pitch at less than 90 miles per hour ended up in the left stands of Chase Field to the disappointment of the fans present.
Two home runs against seemed enough for Kelly’s uneven performance, but Freeman wanted to crown the celebration with a hit to the opposite field to make it 3-0 that closed the first inning.
Although the trio’s feat resonated throughout the Major Leagues, it was not the first back-to-back-to-back of the season, because a couple of weeks ago the New York Yankees also achieved the feat through Juan Soto, Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton.
