The mother of Ricky Pearsall, a 23-year-old receiver for the NFL’s San Francisco 49ers, reported on Sunday that the bullet that wounded her son in the attempted robbery he suffered last Saturday went through his chest without touching any vital organs.

“Updates on my baby. He was shot in the chest and the bullet came out from behind. Thank God the bullet didn’t hit his vital organs,” Erin wrote on social media.

On Saturday, the player selected by the Gambusinos in the first round of this year’s Draft was shot in the chest in an attempted robbery near Union Square, the most popular shopping area in San Francisco, California, after showing up to an autograph signing.

According to information from the city Police Department, Pearsaal was injured during the struggle with the assailant who turned out to be a 17-year-old boy who was arrested by the authorities and is awaiting charges.

In various videos on social media, the young receiver could be seen shirtless, with the right side of his chest bloodied, although standing, while being helped by paramedics to get into an ambulance that took him to San Francisco General Hospital, where he was visited by John Lynch, general manager of the 49ers, who reported that Ricky was in stable condition.

“He suffered a gunshot wound to the chest but is in stable condition. We ask that you respect his privacy at this time. Our thoughts and prayers are with Ricky and the entire Pearsall family,” was the statement issued on behalf of the team.

This Sunday, Ricky Pearsall’s mother Erin took to social media to share her son’s encouraging health.

“First and foremost, I want to thank God for protecting my baby. He is very fortunate. He is in good spirits now. Life is very precious, my friends. Please love one another. My son was saved today by the grace of God. Please pray for my baby,” Erin concluded in her message.

Before making the jump to the NFL, the Phoenix, Arizona-born receiver stood out in college football with the Florida Gators, a team with which he made 65 receptions for 965 yards and four touchdowns last year.

Pearsall, who had recovered from a pair of injuries that sidelined him from three preseason games, had a chance to make his 2024 season debut on Sept. 9 against the New York Jets, something that will now have to wait.
