top-10-us-zip-codes-with-the-most-home-buyersTop 10 US ZIP Codes with the Most Home Buyers

Realtor.com revealed the hottest ZIP codes in the United States in 2024, with those in the Midwest and Northeast dominating this year’s list. According to the report, Gahanna, Ohio took the hottest ZIP title, followed by Ballwin, Mo. and Salem, Mass.

The ZIP code, 43230, Gahanna, Ohio, ranked #1 for the second year in a row. In the 2024 report, this year’s most desirable ZIP codes are found exclusively in the Midwest and Northeast, as each of this year’s top markets attracts buyers looking for a combination of value and appeal.

“While we’ve seen some big changes in the housing market, such as an increasing number of homes for sale, the most popular ZIP codes in the U.S. this year show there are common factors driving interest in these highly competitive areas,” said Danielle Hale, chief economist at Realtor.com.

“While mortgage rate relief is beginning to materialize, this year’s most popular ZIP codes reflect the focus on affordability that homebuyers have had over the past several years in the face of high housing costs. Concentrated in the largest metropolitan areas in the Northeast and Midwest, these top 10 ZIP codes attracted highly qualified homebuyers looking for more space without giving up proximity to urban amenities,” Hale added.

The most striking zip codes in the United States in 2024, in ranking order, are:

1. 43230 Gahanna, Ohio
2. 63021 Ballwin, Missouri
3. 01970 Salem, Massachusetts
4. 07920 Basking Ridge, New Jersey
5. 14609 Rochester, New York
6. 08054 Mount Laurel, New Jersey
7. 01453 Leominster, Massachusetts.
8. 01085 Westfield, Massachusetts.
9. 46322 Highland, IN
10. 18062 Macungie, Pennsylvania

This year, the Northeast and Midwest dominate the list. Seven of the 10 hottest ZIP codes on the list are in the Northeast, with an impressive three ZIP codes in Massachusetts, two ZIP codes in New Jersey, and one ZIP code each in New York and Pennsylvania. The metropolitan areas of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Springfield, Massachusetts, are each represented by a ZIP code on the list of the hottest ZIP codes for the first time in the history of the data.

The Midwest takes three spots on the list with three ZIP codes that were also on last year’s list. In fact, Columbus, Ohio, has been on the list of most popular ZIP codes every year since 2017. This is the second year in a row, and only the second time in the list’s history, that only two regions are represented on the top 10 list.

The South and West regions are not represented in this year’s top ten hottest areas, as buyer interest has shifted away from areas that are typically unaffordable or have become less affordable due to significant price increases during the pandemic. The South, in particular, has seen a significant uptick in the inventory of homes for sale, which has reduced buyer demand for property, cooling and slowing the region’s housing market.
