With the transfer market closing this summer, Guillermo Ochoa has already decided his sporting future and will return to the pitch after a long period of inactivity and uncertainty about his sporting career.

After being left out of Serie A’s Salernitana, Memo Ochoa was reportedly on the radar of several leagues, including the MLS, but, ultimately, the Americanista youth player would stay in Europe for one more year.

And now he will continue there after his official signing with the modest AVS of the Primeira Liga of Portugal, during the transfer deadline.

At 39 years old, it had been difficult for him to find a club that would allow him to reach his sixth World Cup in 2026, but he has found a place in Europe again and has been made official by the club.

The club itself confirmed on social media the transfer of the goalkeeper who has been out of action for two months, after being left out of Salernitana in Serie A in Italy, and with rumors that he could go to MLS, but given his insistence on returning to the Mexican National Team, he has opted to have minutes again in the Old Continent.

“Guillermo Ochoa strengthens AFS. An essential figure in world football, the goalkeeper arrives in the biggest city in Portuguese football from the Italian Serie A,” was the message with which the team announced the signing of the goalkeeper.

Memo Ochoa will travel to Portugal to sign with the club that is currently in 11th place in the 2024-25 Primeira Liga season with four points after four games.

Founded one year ago, AVS Futebol SAD is based in the city of Vila das Aves, in the municipality of Santo Tirso in northern Portugal. The team wears red and white for its first uniform and yellow for its second uniform.

The club has just been promoted to the Portuguese first division and is coached by Vitor Campelos and has other Latin players such as Colombian defender Cristian Devenish and forward Yair Mena, also Uruguayan defender Ignacio Rodríguez and Ecuadorian forward John Mercado.

Their goalkeepers are the Brazilians Simao Bertelli, the starter in all four matches and who has conceded seven goals, Lucas Moura and the Portuguese Pedro Trigueira.
