Venezuelan midfielder Yangel Herrera, who plays for Girona FC in Spain, will not be able to join the Venezuelan national team, known as the Vinotinto, for the upcoming World Cup qualifying matches against Bolivia and Uruguay. This is due to a muscle tear in his left leg, the Venezuelan Football Federation (FVF) reported on Monday.

The FVF explained in a statement on the social network X that the Girona FC medical team diagnosed Herrera with an injury to the left adductor, after performing an MRI following his exit from the match against Sevilla. The estimated recovery time is approximately three weeks.

Given this situation, the FVF decided to release Herrera from the squad so that he could focus on his recovery in Spain.

This is not the only absence for the Vinotinto in these qualifiers. Last Saturday, the Federation announced that defender Jhon Chancellor will also miss the next matches due to an injury to his right knee. According to the diagnosis of the medical team of CD Universidad Católica de Ecuador, where Chancellor currently plays, the estimated recovery time is 12 weeks.

So far, the Vinotinto has not confirmed whether it will call up other players to cover the absences of Herrera and Chancellor.

Despite these absences, Venezuela coach Fernando ‘Bocha’ Batista, from Argentina, has maintained a list of players called up that includes key players such as Rafa Romo, Yeferson Soteldo, Eduard Bello, Salomón Rondón, Jon Aramburu and Tomás Rincón.

In the current CONMEBOL qualifiers, Venezuela is in fourth place, with a record of two wins, three draws and one loss, which temporarily places it in the qualifying zone for the 2026 World Cup.

La Vinotinto will face Bolivia on September 5 in La Paz, and five days later, will host the Uruguayan national team in Maturín, Monagas state.
