Dan Ryan, director of travel and logistics for the Philadelphia Eagles, announced on Monday that the team will travel on Wednesday to the Brazilian city of São Paulo, where they will face the Green Bay Packers next Friday in a game for Week 1 of the 2024 NFL season.
The Eagles and Packers will star in the first NFL regular season game in history to be played in South America.
“It’s the first game in South America. There’s a big cultural difference and that’s great. It’s exciting and we’re ready for a successful trip. We’re treating it like a typical away game,” Ryan said.
The Eagles will travel on Wednesday morning and are expected to arrive in São Paulo 10 hours later.
On Thursday they will carry out a reconnaissance of the Corinthians Arena, a stadium with capacity for 49,205 spectators that will host the game on Friday night.
They will return to the United States once the match is over.
The manager acknowledged that they had to make several visits in recent months to efficiently plan what will be their debut in the season.
“The first visits were to get an idea of the infrastructure and what we could do. On subsequent visits we customized the experience as best we could. We made the schedule, hotel, traffic logistics in São Paulo and everything we needed,” explained the Eagles manager.
Dan Ryan denied that traveling to the south of the continent for the season opener will have negative consequences for the team in the Week 2 game in which the Eagles will host the Atlanta Falcons on September 16.
“Even though we’re playing in a very far away place in week one, the only thing we did was to include that move in our normal schedule, it’s a travel day, but it will allow us to have space because our week 2 game is on Monday night and it’s at our home,” he said.
Regarding the work material that the team will need, he said it was divided into two. The first, which includes non-perishable items such as video tapes of the games, among other things, was sent by ship at the beginning of June and arrived three weeks later.
The second part, including the new uniforms with black sleeves and helmets that the players will wear for this game, will leave on a cargo plane before the players, coaches and team officials travel.
