The fight between Mexican Saúl ‘Canelo’ Álvarez and Puerto Rican Edgar Berlanga, scheduled for September 14 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, is getting closer; in this fight, the Guadalajara native will defend his three super middleweight world titles from the WBO, WBC and WBA.
In light of this, the president of the World Boxing Council, Mauricio Sulaimán, was in charge of presenting the belt that the winner of this fight will receive as part of the tradition that this organization has been carrying out since 2017.
This is the WBC Tamaulipas II belt, which has a powerful red color and a series of striking white designs, while in the center is the classic World Boxing Council plaque detailing that he is the world champion of the division.
“Tamaulipas is very important to my family, my father and mother were born in Ciudad Victoria. This is the second edition, the size is the largest that has been made in diameter. It is based on the Tamaulipas leather and the symbolism,” said Sulaimán in statements offered to the media.
The Secretary of Tourism of the State of Tamaulipas, Benjamín Hernández Rodríguez, was also present at the ceremony and was happy to once again have the honor of making a championship belt.
“Tamaulipas, through its governor, Dr. Américo Villareal, has believed in the power of this wonderful sport to transform lives and now in the framework of a historic boxing event starring Canelo Álvarez. This belt is a symbol of the cultural wealth and magic of the state. It invites us to discover its mountains, its rivers, its structures. It represents the quality and warmth of its citizens,” he emphasized.
