Brazilian police have arrested three men who used a drone to spy on the training session of the team led by Dorival Junior, who are currently preparing for the double qualifying match in the city of Curitiba.

The Canarinha will first face Ecuador at home and then visit Paraguay. One of the offenders is Brazilian, another Venezuelan and the third Ecuadorian, although he claimed to be Colombian.

The lieutenant in charge of the case told Globoesporte: “We are working on this hypothesis (of espionage), given that during the first contact he was quite reluctant and did not provide information, even giving false information about his identification. But we still do not have full justification to proceed with this accusation.”

In his official statement, the police officer in charge of the arrest described how the events occurred and the consequences for the three detainees: “The Brazilian was piloting the drone, flying low, close to the players and other people. When he realized he would be approached, he made a maneuver and launched the drone into the trees. He was located and identified, and then the Ecuadorian was also identified. They will be taken to the police station, and all related materials will be seized, such as the computer used to store the images, the drone and the mobile phones of those involved.”

It is worth remembering that the Brazilian team had an “anti-drone” device during the 2018 World Cup with the sole purpose of avoiding unexpected intruders in the privacy of training.

There was a team of three people tasked with detecting and deactivating all electronic devices flying over the area. They were located on the terrace of one of the buildings near the complex and tried to find unauthorized drones using binoculars.

So far, the Brazilian Football Confederation has not issued any opinion on the version investigated by the police.

This marks the beginning of Sebastián Beccacece’s term at the helm of La Tri, replacing Félix Sánchez Bas, who resigned after the elimination against Argentina in the quarter-finals of the Copa América.

“It is a wonderful responsibility to be able to work for the dream of a country. To accompany this process that allows us, through the development of an idea, to inspire, excite, spread, and enamor a people and also a dream,” he said in his presentation. The former assistant to Jorge Sampaoli in the Argentine national team comes from working for Elche in the Second Division of Spain.
