Bradley Barcola scored the fastest goal in French national team history on Friday, after 13 seconds of the France-Italy match, beating the previous record held by Franck Sauzée, who scored after 34 seconds in 1992.
However, Italy won 1-3 in a match held in Paris, in which France showed serious weaknesses both in attack and defence. Despite starting strongly with Barcola’s goal, problems in playmaking became evident, while Italy played with skill, defending well and taking advantage of counterattacks.
The Paris Saint Germain winger capitalised on a mistake by Italian full-back Giovanni Di Lorenzo, who failed to control a back pass. Barcola stole the ball and, despite having Mbappé free on his right, decided to shoot himself, beating Italian goalkeeper Gigi Donnarumma with a powerful shot.
But the Italians equalised with a volley from Federico Dimarco after a combination with Sandro Tonali, and in the second half, Frattesi scored the 1-2 after a mistake in the French midfield.
The third goal came in the 74th minute, when Raspadori sealed the result, leaving France without answers against the solid Italian defence.
France once again displayed the same problems as at the last Euro: an offense full of stars but lacking fluidity, and a fragile defense.
