The New York Mets began a new series against the Cincinnati Reds at Citi Field on Friday. The Queens team ended up winning the game in extra innings with a score of 6-4 thanks to a home run by Mark Vientos to leave the visiting team on the field.

Vientos started the game as the third hitter and covering third base. In just his first at-bat, the young infielder hit a home run to left field with Francisco Lindor on board to score the first two runs of the game.

The Reds responded in the fourth inning with a two-run homer by Elly De La Cruz. In the sixth, Jose Iglesias put the Mets back in front with a single that drove in Pete Alonso and JD Martinez did the same to put Inglesias himself in the lead to make it 4-2.

However, a two-run homer by TJ Friedl tied the game and sent the game into extra innings. That’s when Mark Vientos dressed up as a hero to hit another home run and leave the Reds on the field.

With this victory, the Mets have a record of 77-64 and are in second place in the National League East Division. They also cling to a spot in the playoffs via the Wild Card with only 21 games left in the regular season.

Outstanding season for Mark Vientos

With the two home runs of the night against the Reds, the young player of Nicaraguan descent reached 24 home runs in the season. In addition to 62 RBIs and a batting average of .286.

Vientos has certainly earned a place in the Mets’ lineup this season, ranking third in home runs behind Francisco Lindor and Pete Alonso and fifth in RBIs in 90 games played with the Queens team.
