Mexican boxer Jaime Munguía wants to keep his career active after the fight he had a couple of months ago against his compatriot Saúl ‘Canelo’ Álvarez to try to win his undisputed super middleweight title at that time; in light of this fact, he stressed that he would like to have a rematch as part of the fights he has planned for the future.
Munguía made these statements to the media prior to the fight he will take place on September 20 against Erik Bazinyan, where he will seek to recover from the defeat against the Guadalajara native to add a new victory to his professional career; although he acknowledged that he wants to get back into the ring against Álvarez.
“The truth is that we don’t rule out a rematch (with Canelo Alvarez). It was a great fight, for me, for us, for the entire public. So I think there could be a rematch. And it could be a very good fight,” said the Mexican who faced the multiple world champion last May.
Jaime Munguía’s promoter, Fernando Beltrán, said that he would also like to hold a rematch against Canelo Álvarez; despite this, they remain attentive to what may happen on September 14 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas in the fight between Canelo Álvarez and Puerto Rican Edgar Berlanga.
“Yes, that’s right (regarding the possibility of fighting Canelo or Berlanga). First of all, we’ll see what happens on September 20 and we’ll take it step by step. We hope everything goes well, we have faith that everything will go well, we’re preparing ourselves pretty hard, so I think we’re going to look for the big fights and the big names,” Munguía concluded.
