The Mexican national team’s technical director, Javier Aguirre, finally spoke about the absence of striker Hirving ‘Chucky’ Lozano for the current FIFA date in which they will face the national teams of New Zealand and Canada in two rounds that will take place in the United States; the fact had been strongly questioned by the media and for this reason he decided to make everything clear.

In statements offered during a press conference, the Mexican national team coach stressed that he has no personal problem with Lozano despite the statements of various Mexican journalists and maintained that it was simply a technical decision to be able to give opportunity to new figures to have in the team’s orbit for the 2026 World Cup.

“It is difficult for me to talk about the people who are not here, because it is a huge population. If I talk about a specific player who is not here, then I have to talk about everyone, why is this one, this one or that one not here,” said Vasco Aguirre in his statements.

“I can tell you about the many years I have been here, plus the matches, I don’t remember any list that is perfectly accepted by everyone, none, none, and look, I’ve been here for more than 30 years. I don’t have a problem with anyone, I arrived and we started from scratch. I don’t look back, I only look forward and of course everyone has the door open, there is nothing out of the ordinary with anyone, the most abnormal thing, let’s say, is what happened with César Montes, who will have to leave the training camp,” added the coach.

Finally, the Aztec coach revealed that Luis Romo, Santiago Giménez and ‘Tala’ Rangel will be the only confirmed starters so far for the match against New Zealand, although he wanted to hide the rest until before the match.

“I was pleasantly surprised by his poise. I already knew he was a natural leader, but now he is trained to be a leader. He has helped me a lot, he has given me insight, he has a fantastic school, as a player and now as a coach, fantastic,” he said.

“He has a vision of the game that he brings to me and I am pleasantly surprised because I have given him the team and he does it very, very well. I am very happy that he is with me. He is a man of football, he has won five World Cups and was a Champions League winner, and he is Mexican. Look at how many good qualities the man has,” concluded Javier Aguirre.
