The game between Mexico and New Zealand was a highlight, but more so because of the notable absence of fans at the Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena, California.

As reported by TUDN, at the start of the match, the stands looked half-empty, with numerous empty spaces and no sign of them filling up as the game progressed.

This was the first match of Javier Aguirre’s era in charge of the Mexican National Team, ahead of the 2026 World Cup, with Rafael Márquez as a key technical assistant. This cycle is especially significant, since the next World Cup will be the third time it is held on Mexican soil.

Historically, Mexico vs. New Zealand on the MexTour had reached a record figure of 90,500 attendees in 2010. However, on this occasion, the number of fans was far below that mark. Although some fans entered the stadium after the game started, it was evident that the Rose Bowl would not be able to fill up.

It is expected that the public’s support will be more noticeable for the next match of the Mexican national team against Canada. The recent poor results of the Mexican national team probably influenced the atmosphere of disenchantment on the part of the fans, particularly in the United States and especially in California, where a large number of Latin and, especially, Mexican fans are concentrated.
