Pitcher Noah Syndergaard surprised all New York Mets fans by saying that he would like to return to the Mets’ ranks at some point in his career to try to regain the level that allowed him to become one of the organization’s leading pitchers and especially one of the most effective in Major League Baseball (MLB).

The pitcher made these statements during an interview on former Mets manager Terry Collins’ podcast, where he said he would “love” to wear the colors of the Big Apple team again despite the inconsistency and injuries that have affected his career over the last couple of seasons.

“I would love to come back home to New York. I hope that’s what’s in store for me. I love the fan base, I love the city. I love the culture, the history, the passion. It’s the best place to play,” Syndergaard said in his comments.

Syndergaard left the Mets after the 2021 season after declining a one-year qualifying offer to sign a one-year deal with the Los Angeles Angels worth $21 million.

“It was definitely on my mind. This is a very important year for me. It’s a defining moment for me. I didn’t want to risk that kind of uncertainty that’s been going on with them. It was the hardest decision of my life, but I definitely think I made the right decision,” she added.

Let’s remember that Noah Syndergaard’s career suffered a hard blow in the 2020 season and much of 2021 due to Tommy John surgery that left him out of action; in 2022 he left a 3.94 ERA in 25 games and later in 2023 with the Dodgers he also reflected a strong sporting slump by leaving a 7.16 ERA in 55.1 innings.
