New York Mets pitcher Luis Severino will further boost his bank account after earning a $500,000 bonus in his last outing with the team, in addition to the $13 million he has earned throughout 2024.

At the beginning of the season, Severino agreed to a one-year deal with the Mets despite a 2023 to forget with the Yankees, leaving a 4-8 record with a 6.65 earned run percentage, but he repaid the trust with a great performance that earned him that award.

According to Severino’s clause, if he made more than 27 starts in 2024, he would receive $500,000, but the improvement does not stop there.

The current contract also reportedly includes a $750,000 bonus for making 29 starts, while he would receive the same amount if he makes 31 games, totaling an additional $1.5 million.

The right-hander has 159.1 innings of work to date, which represents the most work since 2018, one of his best campaigns with the New York Yankees.

To date, the Dominican has a record of 10 wins and six losses, with 136 strikeouts and an ERA of 3.84, demonstrating the improvement this year with the Queens team.

This season will allow Severino to enter free agency again in 2025 and he will aim to seek a multi-year contract, although he has publicly said that he would like to remain in New York.

If he continues at Citi Field, he would lead the Mets’ rotation alongside Kodai Senga, while if he returns to Yankee Stadium, he could take advantage of moves in the Mules’ rotation that could involve the departure of pitchers like Clarke Schmidt, Néstor Cortés or even his countryman Luis Gil.
