Kylian Mbappé arrived at Real Madrid as a free agent in 2024 after finishing his contract with PSG. However, the arrival of the French star to the white team was full of controversy and setbacks.
Mbappé was expected to sign for Real Madrid in the summer of 2022 when his five-year contract, which he signed in 2017 with Monaco, ended. But at the last minute, the club applied pressure and ended up renewing the young player’s contract.
Recently the French newspaper The Team reported that Kylian’s fate could have been different in the summer of 2022. They claim that he was very close to joining Liverpool in order to get out of his contract with PSG.
After Mbappé renewed his contract, he refused to play for PSG and one of the options in which all parties could win was a multi-million-dollar transfer. According to the French newspaper, that offer came from Liverpool, who offered $200 million dollars for the 2018 world champion.
This move was welcomed by Mbappé, who planned to play for Real Madrid, but would first stop at Liverpool so he could leave PSG.
However, Antero Henrique, the Parisian club’s sales manager at the time, asked the English side for the scandalous sum of $400 million for the transfer of the French star. Something that was clearly beyond Liverpool’s means.
PSG have shown their anger in the face of the refusal of the transfer of the player Mbappe and have refused to play the first match of the 2022/2023 season. PSG made their debut at Clermont and, although the medical report reported that the player was out due to “muscle discomfort”, the reality is that he had refused to be called up, considering that the club had betrayed him with promises that were never kept.
Then, before the start of the 2023/2024 season, Mbappé sent a letter to the PSG board reminding them that he would not renew his contract at the end of the season, as he had the option of an additional year if he asked for it.
This led to the French striker being out of contract this summer and that was when Real Madrid signed him as a free agent, albeit paying a large signing bonus for Mbappé himself.
