On a night filled with excitement and star power, Taylor Swift dazzled at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards by taking home seven awards, an impressive record that underscores her continued impact on the music industry.
Swift made history by winning Best Music Video, the most prominent award, for the fifth time; she also repeated as Artist of the Year and Best Pop Artist; and added the titles of Best Collaboration, Best Song of the Summer, Best Direction and Editing, in total she won seven of twelve nominations to which she was nominated, demonstrating once again her ability to connect with her audience through her innovative videos and songs.
The most emotional moment of the night came when Taylor, upon receiving the award for Best Video, dedicated a special message to Travis Kelce, the famous American football player and his partner.
With a beaming smile, Taylor expressed her gratitude and admiration for Kelce, saying, “I’ll always remember that when I would finish a take and say ‘cut!’ I would hear someone cheering in the background of the studio where we were recording, and that person was my boyfriend, Travis (Kelce). Everything this man touches turns into happiness, fun and magic, so I want to thank him for that,” she said.
Taylor’s tribute not only highlighted the importance of their personal relationship, but also underlined how music and love intertwine in her life and career.
This huge recognition at the MTV VMAs is just the latest chapter in a career that continues to evolve and surprise her fans. Taylor Swift continues to prove that her talent and heart are in constant sync, keeping her at the top of the music world.
The 34-year-old singer-songwriter has won 30 MTV VMAs in her career, equaling Beyoncé’s number.
Regarding the anticipation that there was about whether she would speak out on politics after expressing her support for Democratic presidential candidate Kalama Harris on Tuesday, Taylor was more subtle at the event, pointing out that the award she had just won came from a fan vote and asking them, “if you are over 18, please register to vote for something else.”
