Although Costco is known for its great deals, it may not be the best option for purchasing tires in certain situations.

From installation restrictions to prices that might not be the lowest, there are several factors you should consider before making your purchase.

1. You only need less than four tires

If you plan to purchase fewer than four tires from Costco, they must match the size and design of your old tires.

Also, the circumference of the new ones should not be more than 1.5 inches larger or smaller than the old ones.

If there is a difference, Costco will only install tires on the rear of the vehicle, regardless of the drive axle.

This requirement does not apply to vehicles with dual wheels or those with tires of different sizes at the front and rear.

While this policy is in line with good driving practices, if Costco can’t match your tires, you may be able to save money by purchasing a pair of tires elsewhere.

2. You need RV tires

If you’re looking for tires for a golf cart, all-terrain vehicle (ATV), or utility vehicle (UTV), Costco isn’t the way to go.

The store does not offer tires or installation for these vehicles. You will have to look at the chain store’s competitors.

3. You assume Costco always has the lowest prices

Although Costco has good deals, that doesn’t guarantee you’ll always get the lowest price on tires.

It is advisable to compare prices at different retailers.

For example, Tire Barn offers up to $300 in savings on a set of Goodyear tires, a considerable difference if you’re on a budget.

In addition to the cost of the tires, Costco offers free installation, which may tip the scales in your favor, but shopping around is always the best strategy.
