Jeff Bezos’ reign in Indian Creek, Florida, is in jeopardy after he received a complaint from the man who sold him one of his three mansions on the island.

Last year, Bezos invested millions of dollars in two large Indian Creek properties, and this year he bought a third. All of these transactions came close to his announcement of a move to Florida.

The purchase of these mansions attracted the attention of all media, mainly because Indian Creek is an island nicknamed “the millionaires’ bunker.”

Now, one of the homes appears to be in trouble. Bezos paid $79 million for the disputed property. However, Leo Kryss, co-founder of Tectoy and seller of the residence, alleges that he was misled by real estate agency Douglas Elliman and was never informed that the buyer was the Amazon CEO.

The lawsuit is specifically directed at Douglas Elliman, as the company’s agents were responsible for representing both parties in the negotiation.

Kryss purchased the property in 2014 for $28 million and in May 2023 decided to put the place up for sale for $85 million.

According to The Wall Street Journal, the man explains that months after putting the property up for sale, he received an offer of $79 million. The offer caught his attention because some time earlier it had been reported that Bezos paid $68 million for the mansion next door.

Kryss asked the agents if the offer was made by the billionaire businessman, but they said no and even assured her that the interested party would not pay more than $79 million.

After closing the sale, he realized that the buyer was indeed Bezos and that he had lost $6 million, the same amount he hopes to recover with this lawsuit.

The Wall Street Journal reports that Dana Clayton, Kryss’s attorney, says: “Douglas Elliman failed to meet its obligations to our client… They knew or should have known who the ultimate beneficial owner was and misrepresented that fact so important to our client.”
