Barcelona footballer Lamine Yamal, 17, expressed his firm desire to remain at his club on the Antena 3 programme “El Hormiguero”, saying that he wants to become a “legend” for the club.
“I never want to leave Barça, I want to be a legend here,” said the young talent, who also shared memories of his debut in the first team: “I arrived before everyone else, I stayed hidden until everyone came out and then I came out. The first game, the first half was pitiful, but in the second I scored and gave an assist to Ansu” (Fati).
Regarding his inclusion in the Ballon d’Or list, Yamal commented: “We were with the national team and first Nico (Williams)’s name came up. Then mine. I don’t think I have a chance of winning it, no.”
Recalling Spain’s victory at the European Championship, he said: “Since the European Championship, people are happy and I see people smiling. It’s a dream.” Furthermore, on the future of his teammate Nico Williams, who plays for Athletic Club, he said: “I would like to play every week with him, of course I would.”
The young player also spoke about how he handles fame, stating that “my mother is the way I keep my feet on the ground, she is the one who sends my agent.”
Regarding comparisons with Leo Messi, Yamal said: “Being compared to the best in history… I like it, but I want to be me and getting there is impossible.” He recalled an anecdote about a photo of him with Messi when he was a baby, saying: “He did pass on some of his powers to me… But I still have a long way to go. My mother told me that it was a draw for a calendar and I won. If it’s now, wow…”
