Lili Estefan has expressed pride in her daughter Lina Luaces’ participation in New York Fashion Week 2024, in a show by Dominican designer Giannina Azar.
In an interview with El Gordo y la Flaca, a show she hosts with Raúl de Molina, the Cuban-American spoke about her daughter’s evolution: “How can I explain to you what it feels like? Also, every time I’ve seen her, I feel a different emotion. The first time I was like ‘My God, I struggled so much to do this’ and I was never able to make it to a catwalk at Fashion Week here in New York. However, look how the centuries go by and my daughter achieves it, I’m drooling. I’m so proud of her, I know how difficult it is.”
He said that the hardest part is going out and impacting the public, since many things have to be controlled for everything to go well.
“I identify a lot with Lina because I remember how nervous I was when I had to do it. You always want to look good, you never know if your shoe is going to fail you, if you are going to trip, slip, if there is something on the floor that you may not have seen, if maybe the dress is too long and you stumble when you walk. You can’t imagine everything that these models have to keep in mind because they do a fitting sometimes three hours before the show, I mean, it’s not that easy,” she commented.
She explained that her daughter rarely asks her for advice, because she has internalized the fact that she enjoys these experiences.
Lili Estefan confessed that she tries not to get too involved with her daughter’s projects. “She was in New York and I wasn’t there for five days, so she had to do it alone, she had to handle each situation alone and it turned out great. The difference is that when I’m there, I record them and post them to you.”
The presenter commented that the important thing about this career is to persist in order to achieve your dreams. “Lina has been told no, you don’t know how many times, and when she is told yes, she makes the most of it and I think that is the beauty of this business,” she concluded.
