All the alarm bells were ringing for the New York Mets after Puerto Rican shortstop Francisco Lindor missed his second game in the last three days due to back pain.

Part of the Mets’ offense took a hit during Sunday’s 2-1 loss to the Phillies after Lindor was forced to leave the field in just the third inning due to lower back pain.

In fact, the Puerto Rican’s discomfort has lasted for several months and also forced him to leave Friday’s game during the seventh inning, which made Carlos Mendoza give him Saturday off to try to improve from the discomfort.

According to Lindor himself, the first discomfort he felt was while he was practicing swings in the batter’s box in Friday’s game, where he ended up getting the hit, although he believes he has been playing with pain in the area for some time.

Lindor is expected to undergo an MRI in the next few hours to determine the extent of the injury and whether he can be treated on a day-to-day basis or if he will have to be placed on the disabled list for at least 10 days.

Lindor mentioned that back pain has been bothering him for a while and it got worse during this series.

Lindor’s injury comes amid an enviable offensive moment that has put the Mets squarely in the fight for one of the two National League wild cards, averaging .271 with 31 home runs and 86 RBIs, all of this despite a sharp offensive slump that the infielder suffered during the months of April and May, at the beginning of the season.
