Ryan Wesley Routh, 58, has been identified by authorities as the alleged suspect in the new assassination attempt against former President Donald Trump this Sunday, several media outlets have confirmed.

According to the New York Post, Routh frequently touted his do-gooder credentials and championed left-wing causes on social media.

He had a rifle

The man was arrested after allegedly pointing an AK-47 assault rifle at former President Trump while he was playing golf.

Upon seeing the suspect with the rifle, the Secret Service shot him and he ran from some bushes where he was hiding to the vehicle he tried to escape in, a black pickup truck whose license plate a witness managed to photograph.

As a result, the individual was arrested a few minutes later on the road in his vehicle. The weapon was found in the bushes, as well as two bags and a GoPro sports camera.
