Following the Detroit Lions’ 16-20 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 3 of the NFL, a fan lost his life. After the game, a fight broke out that would trigger a shooting that ended the life of one fan and left another in critical condition.

Detroit Police Chief James White told local media that the incident began around 4:30 p.m. at Shed 6 on Riopelle Street after a Detroit Lions game at nearby Ford Field.

What happened?

Initially, they fought in an area near the stadium, but it was able to disperse. However, minutes later they met again and made a feint as if to start the confrontation again, but one of them pulled out a gun and fired.

“A large fight broke out (that) dispersed after a few minutes (…) they reconnected a few feet away from where the initial fight began. The two fans raised their hands as if they were about to fight each other… one of the people in the fight, an Oak Park man, pulls out a gun and fires at least two shots. Two people were injured,” he said.

The Lions fan was a 40-year-old man, according to police testimony. He died as a result of the gunshot. The second victim is hospitalized in critical condition and is a 20-year-old man.

The alleged killer, meanwhile, is a 30-year-old licensed concealed carry gun holder. He was arrested by police a few minutes later. “The officers did an incredible job… they were there doing traffic from the game and heard the gunshots. They were able to quickly stop the shooter.”

“The biggest story that should have been told is that the Lions lost and some people had a fight, but unfortunately, we have someone who lost his life,” White said.

The police chief said the two victims and the shooter were likely attending a postgame party following the Lions’ 16-20 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Ford Field, less than a mile away. The shooting occurred with thousands of people in the area as the game was just minutes away.
