William Alcindor, an elderly man who was shot in the head while driving, lost control of his car and ran over a woman on the sidewalk before dying yesterday in broad daylight in Queens (NYC).

Police responded to 117th Road and Farmers Boulevard in St. Albans around 4:50 p.m. Monday to find a crash involving a driver shot in the head behind the wheel that struck a 23-year-old woman, who survived.

Paramedics took the 66-year-old driver to Jamaica Hospital, where he died, police said. ABC News. The name of the walker who was hit by the car has not been released.

According to witnesses at the scene, the driver was not the gunman’s intended target and described the suspects as a group of teenagers who were fighting in the parking lot of a nearby Popeye’s restaurant, he said. Daily News.

“The guys that shot him started running in that direction,” said witness Rodrigo Tendilla, pointing in the direction of 177th Road. The shooting “appeared to be random,” a police source said.
