Singer Miley Cyrus is facing a lawsuit for alleged copyright infringement. The controversy revolves around her hit song “Flowers,” which, according to the plaintiffs, Tempo Music Investments, a company that claims to own part of the copyright to Cyrus’ “When I Was Your Man,” plagiarized substantial elements of Bruno Mars’ well-known ballad, TMZ reported.

While Bruno Mars is not behind the suit, the lawsuit, filed by legal representatives for Tempo Music Investments, alleges that “Flowers,” released in January 2023, bears too close a similarity to Mars’ song, released in 2013. According to the plaintiffs, both in terms of melody, harmony, and the chorus, Cyrus’ new song copies “When I Was Your Man” in a substantially similar manner.

The lawsuit argues that certain melodic sequences and harmonic progressions in “Flowers” are strikingly similar to those in the song “When I Was Your Man.”

“It is undeniable, based on the combination and the number of similarities between the two recordings, that ‘Flowers’ would not exist without ‘When I Was Your Man,’” they say.

Tempo Music Investments has been trying to contact the former Disney girl to ask her to stop receiving profits from the song, in turn they expect her to pay a good amount of money.

“Flowers,” a song about self-empowerment and personal growth, is a track that Cyrus has taken to the top charts since its release and resulted in the actress’ first Grammy Award.
