Una Pizza Napoletana, a restaurant located at 175 Orchard Street, has been ranked number one globally by the prestigious 50 Top Pizza list, beating out two icons from Southern Italy.

The Manhattan classic pizza has regained its place as the best in the world after being recognized by the prestigious 50 Top Pizza list, the New York Post reported.

This is the Italian dish served at Una Pizza Napoletana, known for offering a rotating range of flavors that includes its Marinara, Margherita and Cosacca styles.

According to the website, the pizza at Anthony Mangieri’s restaurant goes back to the origins and simplicity of the dish. “In a country accustomed to putting everything on pizza, Anthony offers only the purest tradition in the ingredients, with extraordinary quality.”

This is not the first time Una Pizza Napoletana has entered the ranking, since in 2022, while Diego Vitagliano from Naples and I Masanielli from Caserta tied for first place, Una Pizza Napoletana came in second.

In 2024, the two Italian establishments tied again, but this time for second place, behind the Lower East Side champion.

The secret of the best pizza

For Mangieri, a Jersey Shore native, it is inspiring to receive such recognition after several years of culinary career. “It is inspiring to be recognized, 30 years later, especially in Naples, where pizza originated.”

He points out that one of his secrets is the pizza dough that he has made every morning for 25 years. “Every pizza that people eat, I still make the dough every morning,” he told CNN.

While he appreciates the award, he says it is not the core inspiration for his work, as he is motivated by love and focus. “The recognition is appreciated, but in the end, it is not the reason I started and it is not why I continue to make every dumpling we serve at Una after all these years.”

Mangieri explains what makes a really good pizza is all about the dough first. “It’s not a specific recipe, but about hydration and understanding how to work the dough and being able to adapt to all the variables involved.”

According to the list of the best pizzas, this dish is served with the best quality and flavor in New York, Tokyo, Milan, Naples and London.

The top 10 includes: Pizza Bar in Tokyo in third place, Confine in Milan in fourth, and Napoli on the Road in London in fifth.

Tony’s Pizza Napolitana in San Francisco came in sixth place and I Tigli in San Bonifacio took seventh place. Sartoria Panatierin in Barcelona came in eighth place; 50 Kalò in Naples came in ninth place; and Seu Pizza Illuminati in Rome came in tenth place.
