The tragic story of Stephany Nicole has shocked the community of Austell, Georgia. This 16-year-old Venezuelan teenager was murdered by her stepfather Alejandro Bencomo, who then tried to take his own life.

Stephany had been living with her mother and Bencomo since they migrated together from Venezuela three years ago. Stephany’s mother had been in a seven-year relationship with the man.

Cindy Villalobos, Stephany’s sister, spoke to Univision from Venezuela about the pain her mother is experiencing.

“My mother is alone in that country, with no one else. There was only her, my sister and Alejandro,” she said in the interview.

Stephany’s mother was working at the time of the crime. When she got home and saw her daughter injured, she ran to get help from a neighbor to call 911, since she does not speak English.

He was a “jealous and insecure” man

Cindy described Bencomo as a jealous and insecure man, capable of getting upset over any small reason.

“I could be upset with my mom for weeks for no apparent reason,” he explained.

“He showed us all the mask of being a good person. That’s why we never imagined, it never crossed our minds that this could happen,” she added.

The family is now grieving separately, with Stephany’s mother in the United States and Cindy in Venezuela.

Alejandro Bencomo, 57, faces charges of murder, aggravated assault and cruelty to a child in the first degree. He is currently in the hospital and authorities have not released further details about his condition.

Cindy and her family hope that justice will be served in the death of Stephany Nicole.
