Technical director Stefano Pioli will become the new coach of Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr from Wednesday, after the latter fired Portuguese coach Luis Castro on Monday after his team drew 1-1 against Al-Shorta of Iraq at the start of the Asian Champions League.
An announcement on social media from Cristiano Ronaldo’s team was enough to confirm the news, which had already been previously reported by journalist and expert on the world football transfer market, Fabrizio Romano.
“Welcome Stefano Pioli as our new coach,” was the message posted on the arrival of the 58-year-old coach.
Pioli gained recognition thanks to his time at AC Milan, where in 2022 he won the club’s first Serie A title since 2011, returning the Rossoneri to Italy’s elite more than 10 years later.
Piole’s challenge will also be his first outside his home country after having managed both Milan and Parma. He was currently without a club.
Pioli is expected to take charge of the team as soon as possible to try to get things back on track after Castro’s obvious failure, who was only able to collect a total of six points out of 12 that were up for grabs. His possible debut could take place next Friday, September 20, when the club faces Al-Ettifaq, led by former English midfielder Steven Gerrard.
