Venezuelan Jose Altuve was ejected for removing his shoe and left sock in an attempt to prove something to the umpires in the game that the Houston Astros won 4-3 over the San Diego Padres.

According to ESPN, Altuve hit a ground ball toward third base, resulting in the final out of the ninth inning. However, the slugger insisted that the ball had hit his foot and, in an unusual gesture, he removed his shoe and sock to show the umpires the impact site, prompting umpire Brennan Miller to eject him. Manager Joe Espada was also ejected for continuing to argue.

Altuve explained after the game that he was trying to prove the ball hit his foot, comparing it to taking off his batting glove when a player is hit on the hand. “It hit me in the foot, and that should have been considered,” he said. This was the third time in Altuve’s career that he was ejected.

Grae Kessinger replaced Altuve and scored the go-ahead run for the Houston Astros in the 10th inning.

In the bottom of the 10th, Astros reliever Hector Neris loaded the bases with two outs before Manny Machado grounded out. Kessinger made an impressive backhanded save and threw to Jeremy Pena to force the out and end the game in favor of the Siderals.
