National Cheeseburger Day is celebrated every September 18th. A date on which the main fast food chains offer discounts and gifts to their customers related to this popular dish in the United States.
The origins of the celebration date back to 1924, when a teenager named Lionel Sternberger, who worked at his father’s sandwich shop, The Rite Spot, in Pasadena (California, USA), decided one day to put a slice of American cheese on a hamburger, according to the Qué Pasa Hoy website.
While the first real sandwich to be marketed with the word “cheeseburger” was at Kaelin’s restaurant in Louisville, Kentucky, in 1934.
