Without a doubt one of the best teams in recent years was the Real Madrid squad between 2000 and 2006, known as the “Galacticos”, which included players such as Ronaldo Nazario, Figo, David Beckham, Roberto Carlos, Zinedine Zidane and Raúl González.
One of those who was also part of this team, although not of the calibre of “Galáctico”, was the Spanish midfielder José María Gutiérrez, better known as “Guti”. He experienced this era of Real Madrid with an elite squad up close.
Something similar is happening at the moment in the white team. With the arrival of Kylian Mbappé, for many the best player in the world, who joins players like Vinícius Jr., Rodrygo, Jude Bellingham, Federico Valverde, among others. Comparisons are beginning to be made about a second half of “Galácticos” at Real Madrid.
However, for Guti, this is not the case. He believes that the current squad of the Spanish team is better than that of the galactic era. He made this clear in an interview for the Diary AS.
“This is a better template than the one in the Galactics“They have very good players who are very young. They will mark an era at Real Madrid,” Guti began his response to the comparisons between one team and another.
According to Guti, this Real Madrid has more variants of players and the coach can change the formation as needed. Whereas 20 years ago with the Galácticos, so many pieces could not be moved.
“In the Galactics “There were many players who were untouchable, who had to always play. In this case, Ancelotti will always do what is best for his team. At certain times he can play with a 4-3-3 because the game requires it and in tough and difficult games, where he needs a little more muscle in the midfield, he will play with a 4-4-2. Ancelotti is a very intelligent coach and he will get the best out of this team,” explained the former Spanish player.
Guti talks about the Rodrygo case
Within the Real Madrid squad, the Brazilian Rodrygo has been a key piece for the team in recent years. However, with the arrival of Mbappé this season, it seems that the young striker is beginning to feel less valued in the team and rumours have arisen about a possible departure from the team.
Given this situation, Guti made his opinion clear about Rodrygo and what he would do if he were Real Madrid’s sporting director. “He is a player who is highly valued. He is a footballer who has given a lot to the club, who can still give it and will do so. Someone with tremendous potential. If I were Madrid’s sporting director, I would never sell Rodrygo,” he emphasised.
