Spaniard Fernando Alonso was the protagonist of one of the most talked-about scenes of the day during the first free practice session of the Singapore Grand Prix.
According to DAZN, the Spaniard managed to avoid a crash after his car began to skid dangerously towards the wall, making a maneuver to keep the car on the track. However, the Asturian accidentally pressed the “pit” button on the steering wheel.
“Just to confirm, Fernando, you pressed the pit button. Was it on purpose?” asked the Aston Martin engineer, to which Alonso spontaneously replied: “No, to avoid a crash with this car I pressed the buttons. All the ones I have.”
The incident not only generated laughter, but also showed the precision and speed required to drive a Formula 1 car to the limit. This incident in Singapore not only highlighted Alonso’s talent, but also the intense concentration and technical skill that the sport demands, especially on a circuit as challenging as Marina Bay.
Alonso is currently ninth in the Formula 1 World Championship, with 58 points so far. Free practice for the Singapore GP will be completed on Saturday, hours before qualifying, which will determine the starting line-up for Sunday’s race, scheduled for 62 laps, covering a total of 306.1 kilometres.
