Ecuadorian forward Leonardo Campana made history with Inter Miami by becoming the top scorer for the team from South Florida.

The 24-year-old tied Gonzalo ‘Pipita’ Higuaín (29) at the top of this record for the Fort Lauderdale organization last Saturday, August 3, but this Wednesday he was finally able to leave it behind.

Although Campana’s 30th goal was not the most impressive due to a defender’s deflection, he can now celebrate this milestone in his career.

Since his arrival in 2021, Campana has been a key piece for the team’s attack, standing out for his ability to define in decisive moments and for his growth in North American soccer.

Although the record is his alone for now, Campana currently shares the roster with one of the men called to break all of Inter Miami’s historical records: Lionel Messi.

And in just 31 matches, the South American star and captain of the world champion Argentina team has 27 goals, followed by Luis Suárez with 21 celebrations in 29 appearances.

The 2024 season has been crucial for the Ecuadorian, who has known how to take advantage of opportunities both in Major League Soccer and in international competitions.

With Luis Suárez as Martino’s starting nine, the Ecuadorian has known how to adapt to his supporting role, enjoying fewer minutes than he was used to in 2023, but with his ability to score important goals, he has cemented his place as one of the most dangerous forwards on the team and also in MLS.

Leonardo Campana: 30 goals
Gonzalo Higuain: 29 goals
