Actor James McAvoy revealed the awkward moment he experienced when he met actress Jennifer Aniston (with whom he had always been in love), in an encounter that, although brief, remained etched in his memory because “it ruined everything.”
In an episode of ‘Watch What Happens Live’, hosted by Andy Cohen, the Scotsman said: “When I met her, it wasn’t very nice.” And he immediately explained that that interaction, which happened a long time ago at a Hollywood party, wasn’t perfect but “not because she’s not great,” but because he didn’t know how to handle the situation correctly.
McAvoy revealed that he had always been in love with Brad Pitt’s ex, so meeting her was a big surprise for him. “I was at a party when I was really young, I was 22, in Los Angeles, and I met Lucy Liu. And Lucy Liu was really, really nice to me and she was like, ‘Come meet my friends,’” the actor began to recount, who unexpectedly found himself in the middle of a circle of friends that included Aniston.
“I was standing right next to Jennifer Aniston and just as Liu was ready to say, ‘Hey, meet my new friend James,’ a guy Jennifer went to school with pulled her aside. She walked away and I was left standing with all these people going, ‘Hey, what’s up? I’m new in town,’” he recalled, laughing.
However, the newcomer to Los Angeles ruined everything when he tried to start a conversation with his favourite star. “So you’re Jennifer Aniston and you’re in Friends,” he told her, and the actress didn’t take his comment too well. “It was harsh. But she was lovely,” he noted with some embarrassment.
It should be noted that James McAvoy was not the only Hollywood celebrity who confessed to being in love with Jennifer Aniston. David Schwimmer, who worked with the actress in ‘Friends’, also admitted to having felt “a huge crush.”
Jake Gyllenhaal, who played her romantic partner in the film ‘The Good Girl’ (2002), is another of the stars who admitted having feelings for Aniston.
“I was in love with her for years and working with her was not easy; it was a struggle,” said the actor, while confessing that this was what attracted him most to the blonde: “It was not so much because of ‘Friends’, but because of her personality and the films she appeared in,” he added.
