Gregorio Amundarain, a Venezuelan deliveryman based in Washington, received an unexpected gift of $5,000 from activist and content creator Carlos Eduardo Espina, after being the victim of a xenophobic attack while making a delivery.

The incident, which was recorded and shared on social media, showed Amundarain being insulted by the owner of a fast food establishment. It all came about because the foreigner does not speak English.

The video of the attack went viral and generated a wave of support and solidarity towards Amundarain. In response, Carlos Eduardo Espina delivered the aid to the young Venezuelan.

“This is for you because you told me that you had goals, that you came from Venezuela to fulfill your dreams. What happened to you was very ugly, but I respect how you reacted,” Espina said in a video posted on her social media.

“This is for you, for whatever you want, if you want to buy what you need. I know you are not working. From the bottom of my heart, I wanted to help you in this way,” the content creator added.

The Venezuelan migrant, visibly moved, thanked Espina for the support he has received since he suffered the verbal attacks, especially for the $5,000 she gave him.

“Thank you from the bottom of my heart. If it weren’t for you, this wouldn’t be happening. We have to try to stay calm when an incident like the one that happened to me happens. I’m doing this for all of us, for all Latinos. This can’t be happening, this deserves justice. Justice is being done. Let’s leave everything in the hands of God, of the police, who will enforce the law,” he said.

Many have highlighted Amundarain’s calm attitude during the incident.

What will you do with the $5,000 that was given to you?

In an interview with Wake up America, broadcast on Univision, he told what he will do with the money that content creator Carlos Eduardo Espina gave him.

“Right now, since I’m not working, I’m trying to balance things out until everything calms down and help my family for the time being,” he said.
