The U.S. Department of State facilitates the passport renewal process through an online system. This way, American citizens avoid long lines and in-person procedures.
Here we explain step by step how to renew your passport easily and quickly from the comfort of your home:
Enter the official website
Visit mytravel.state.gov and go to the Passport services section and then click on Renew your passport.
You will then be redirected to another page where you will need to log in or create an account.
This is the first step to start your renewal application.
Complete the application form
Once inside, fill in the requested information about your most recent passport and your next trip abroad. It is important that your passport is not damaged and that it was issued within the last 15 years.
Upload your digital photo
Make sure your photo meets the established requirements.
Upload the image in the indicated format to continue with the process.
Make the payment
Pay the applicable fee using the payment methods accepted on the website. This step is key to your application being processed.
Sign and send your application
You are almost ready to complete your application. Review all the information provided, sign digitally and submit your application. You can follow the status of your application online.
By offering the option to renew your passport online, the State Department is seeking to modernize government services and facilitate bureaucratic procedures for its citizens.
