An 18-year-old woman pretended to be interested in buying a car in Ontario, and was being shown the vehicle by the owner when she drove off and ran over the man, who managed to get up off the pavement. The suspect escaped, but was detained by police, arrested and charged with multiple counts. The entire accident was captured on the doorbell camera of the car owner’s home.
Peel Regional Police announced the arrest of Sarah Badshaw, who is charged with dangerous driving causing bodily harm, theft of a motor vehicle, failing to remain at the scene after an accident causing bodily harm and driving without a licence.
The thief saw the vehicle posted online
The young woman pretended to be interested in buying a white 2022 Porsche Cayenne, which she had seen advertised on Auto Trader, Peel Regional Police said in a statement. The incident occurred on Sept. 6 at Winston Churchill and Eglinton Avenue in Mississauga, Ontario.
Sarah Badshaw arrived at the car owner’s house, rang the doorbell and said she wanted to see the vehicle. The man showed her the car and she was sitting on the driver’s side. When the person tried to open the door he couldn’t and walked to the back.
As the victim was in the backseat, Badshaw sped off in reverse to hit and drag him before fleeing the scene, as seen in doorbell camera video released by police.
The owner with several injuries
The man, whose identity has not been provided, suffered injuries to his hands, legs and elbows and required medical attention.
The Porsche stolen by the thief was recovered by Ontario authorities on September 18 after being abandoned. Peel police also reported that the investigation is still ongoing, as there is an accomplice of Sarah Badshaw, who was in a grey Bentley Bentayga, which can be seen in the video provided by police.
He turned himself in to the police
“Sarah Badshaw, 18, of Brampton, turned herself in to police. She was remanded in custody and had a bail hearing on September 20 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton,” police said in the statement.
Anyone with information regarding this incident or any incident involving Sarah is asked to call Division 11 Auto Theft Unit investigators at (905) 453-2121, ext. 1152.
Anonymous information can also be submitted by calling Peel Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or visiting peelcrimestoppers.ca.
On the other hand, authorities are asking the public that if they want to sell or buy items and see them posted online, they should gather in areas where there is a police station nearby to avoid problems with theft or more severe assaults.
